Tom,
Dave's advice:

Is VERY VERY important.
I spend many hours with compressed air, a power washer and
the dish washer (when wife was absent) cleaning the Kawasaki.
Fired up the pre oiled thing, ran it 10+ minutes at 2.5-3K using
Pennzoil 5-30 and shut it off. Couldn't believe the amount of very
fine aluminum in the filter. Panic set in.... tear down ????
I decided to do it again, fresh 5-30 & filter. Nothing in the filter. Wow!
I can't stress how much time and effort I spent cleaning the damn thing.
I used Mobil-1 15-50 back then, today I would use Mobil-1 10-40
motorcycle oil, it would do an even better job.
