HI,
Too bad you pulled the engine.....Next time you have an "odd" problem like
this, do like the others have suggested and run the engine some. Not for
the rings...but for the valves.
I have found that if the cylinder that has an open valve when shut off will
leak because the valve warps a little during cooling. Stainless valves are
worse. I have found that the errant cylinder (valve) "moves" around in the
engine! As a result, if I have an exhaust valve that leaks around 10%, I
just ignore it until the leakage repeats or gets worse. Frequent checking
is best to establish a pattern.
