Doug,
Thanks for the kind words. I respect and admire all of my fellow racers who
have set records and those who will go on to set records in the future. We
are truly a unique group who only get to see each other a few times a year,
can have a lively discussion about some nebulous (sorry Jack) problem, and
still pitch in and help each other in our quest for speed.
I do not advocate a return to the three run system. It worked then and
probably wouldn't work now. It does bother me though to see someone sitting
on the starting line ready to go, waiting for a tail wind to make his down
run. I talked with a fellow on the line who was doing that in 1998.
Illegal? Probably not. Just working within the system to get an advantage.
When you had to show up in the o-dark thirty morning and make two runs
regardless of headwinds or tailwinds it was a lot tougher. I am too much of
a purist for my own good.
We must put safety first and like Mike said, hopefully we can go back to
two runs in opposite directions for future records.
( I'm sure that will happen this year since we will have a competitive
engine in the car.) Suits me fine, I won't complain.
I'm also not picking on our sanctioning groups here either. They do a good
job of keeping some logic and discipline in our sport.

Howard
P.S. If you need a riot started give me a call. Apparently I'm good at it.
