I went up to Chico, CA today to visit my long-time racing motorcycle mentor
Craig Hanson, (Hanson Racing Technology) mainly to get some ideas on how to
proceed with the design for my bike's frame, and also to explore some ideas
for streamlining. So, while I'm there this old guy, "Bud", in his seventies
comes in and they're talking a little bit about little honda motorcycle
stuff, then the guy picks up some parts and leaves. Craig later tells me
that Bud ran a Crocker speedway bike at Muroc in 1939, and has seen a
picture of him there. Anyway, I missed a chance to talk to someone that was
there way back when. Bud lives up in the area and does some kind of machine
work for my friend, but most of his life he lived in Santa Barbara. Next
time I'm up that way I'll have to see if I can drop by Bud's shop and maybe
get a look at that picture, or maybe hear a little bit about running bikes
at Muroc before the war.
