List,

We are in much the same kind of situation this coming summer as existed
in the late 1930's on the Bonneville Salt Flats when Eyston, Cobb and
Campbell were all attempting to set land speed records. Today there is the
Burkland's liner, the Vesco Turbinator, Al Teague and Nolan White. They all
have made runs over 400 MPH. There are also new cars nearly completed by
proven record setters Marlo Treit and Terry Nish as well as the Skip Hedrich
liner that was doing preliminary runs at World of Speed. That's seven cars
with over 400 MPH record setting capabilities just waiting for dry salt and
a longer course.
Add in the newly restored to running condition, Mormon Meteor of Marv
Jenkin's which still holds some endurance records yet to be surpassed on
banked and paved super-speedways. With the rebuild on that engine and some
current technology involved in the rebuild, Marv possibly could (but won't)
go after some of the records set by him and his father and raised
fractionally by sixty five year newer cars. Wonder how much more salt it
would take to get back on the two ten mile circles and the twelve and one
half mile circle? On the tapes I have, that engine has a distinctive sound
and it could come around every three minutes or so for you to hear it up
close and at speed. 2 Club? ... Ab Jenkins averaged OVER 182 MPH for 200
miles in his 1940 runs while turning in a large circle on the flat salt
surface..
