Ok, when I went to school this was called a blow down turbine. We had several to play with. The concept was the turbine shaft was connected to the crankshaft and the turbine was fed from the exhaust of all the cykinders (big radial mutha). This was simply a way to recover some of the 1/3 of available heat being thrown overboard. Our systems never had any additional fuel added, but I suppose they could have. The ones we had were maybe 18 inches in diameter. mayf |
