Russ, that is quite a tale! I have to admit I have always admired you
"vintage motor" guys just because of the way you get around such problems.
As for me, most of my SBC stuff came off the shelf (ok it got massaged a
bit). The only 50 year-old stuff in my car is my blood and sweat. There is a
real lack of speed parts for late model Vettes but it is Chevy, so lots of
other Chevy applications can be adapted. As to your PPS; the gears were cut
& hardened by a performance machine shop in Florida and are now traveling
through a black hole somewhere in UPS-land. I'll get something in the car -
unlike you, I can generally borrow parts. It is still aggrevating, as I have
other stuff to do & I want to get it on the dyno before speedweek Just once
I would like to show up on the salt prepared & relaxed, instead of burned
out from a last minute thrash. But then again, that's part of the Bonneville
experience.............
