I am testing this. I have not done this before. Feel like i am at
confession. My name is Tim Cunha. I have been following dry lakes and salt
racing since i was 10 years old. sick. I have the first hot rod magazine i
bought in 1969 with the pierson coupe on the cover being towed by the blue 55
ford truck. I have not raced. My goal this year is to get something worked
out and ready for the May meet. I own Don waites 29 roadster. I have met
nothing but great people in this sport/hobby. Charlie Marklee drove 2 hours
to bring me a Desoto block and exhaust for the car and i didnt even ask him.
He said he will be there with some things i will need. This was while i was
getting the car ready for last years Oakland roadster show. The car had been
dormant since 1964. I just talked to Russ Ayres. I am trying to find some
milk truck or Helms bakery truck 18" rims and firestone tires for a static
display, also some 650x16" stones. he said he would put out some feelers and
may be able to help out. we talked on the phone for awhile and u could tell
he couldnt wait till the next season. the tires are for Don Waites 27 and for
fred larsens 27 which will be comming back. Pieces to be gathered. Can you
guys help with some parts requests. I dont know if i am out of line here.
but i thought i would ask. Then there is Mr Fox in the bay area ( i am
trying to weasel a ride in his roadster) who turned me on to this site and
who is always there for technical and reality testing. Then there is T Willie
who could fill books with his knowledge and history always willing to help.
George Benson no need to elaborate on him.... KING.... there are many others.
I have gone to many lakes meets, we have a house near el mirage and i never
met a racer who wasnt ready to chat about things... so there u have it . Much
thanks to you guys who do it now and to those who have been doing it
forever.
