I spent Monday (8/17) at the Saltflats, here's my report. Salt is rough
and bumpy, and a little damp, but the longest course in sometime. The path
from the end of the road out to the pits is the roughest and most potholed
I have seen. Lots of cars, lots of people. Some fast speeds being run,
but it's a tough course. Spent the day crewing for Gary Allen, he ran a
personal best of 212+ (D/BFALT #356) on a 221 record. Said it was all over
the course, hard to control. Most other drivers said similar things. The
weather was hot and sunny (about 90) made bearable by a breeze in the
afternoon. Long lines in long course staging, due to delay in getting
started due to moving the course over 1 lane looking for smoother salt.
Several cars were in impound and made record runs first thing. Sorry, I
don't have results or numbers. Met Kieth Turk and John Beckett in the
staging lanes, they were having too much fun!
