Doug-George of Salt Circus fame bought that Howard Head GMC from me. I had
run it in my 32 5 window in XX/VAlt for a while and got Zekes record at the
salt shortly before selling it to George. It had old Jahns cast pistons one
of which had ticked a valve for unknown reasons last time I ran it. I told
George but it looked ok so he ran it. At the salt he pulled the head after
his last run and I did not see any piston in #6. Just a wrist pin. I sold my
turbo motors to Bud Morrell and he sold the turbos and manifold to Don
Furgeson. Later Bud sold my 270 to Bruce Johnson who sold it back to me and I
ran it once in Bob Daltons streamliner at 202 and torched the head.
I ran against Latten and Gillette with the turbo 270 in the 5 window when
they had the Ardun Capri. We both went 158. So I put the motor in the Vega
and ran 177 one way. I like to think that's when they got the idea to split
the classes. That flathead "Broad jumper" 34 of theirs is plenty fast in my
book. Rich Fox
