Hi,

I need advice regarding a new issue =
pertaining to my clutch/gearbox. At least that is my understanding. By =
“clutch/gearbox”, I include master and slave cylinders….=

Car is UK RHD A-H3000 MkII BT7.

Has marginally lightened =
flywheel.

Centre shift.

Clutch plate is about 18 months old. =
Not gone long distance nor been thrashed around.

Noise is not related to engine speed.

I did some tests in my =
backyard……

I made a few notes:-

Reverse out into backyard…..no problems.

Back and forward in first and reverse about 5 times then the noise =
starts in both gears.

It is a harsh rubbing/grating noise, =
accompanied by a vibration which I can feel in clutch foot. I get =
impression that it’s down low on rhs.

Can feel vibration in my=
clutch foot when the noise is happening.

Noise happens as I lift =
clutch foot to engage reverse or first. (Didn’t try =
2nd)

Noise stops once I lift foot all the way and engage =
gear whereupon car drives normally ie noise only happens when in process of=
engaging gear.

There is no noise or vibration when car is in =
neutral.

Noise does not occur every time. Most times.

Now, my belief is that this may be something to do with the carbon =
“release bearing”. Maybe not wear because it’s pretty new=
but maybe because it’s not engaging fully or it’s not aligned =
right. I’m thinking about slave cylinder or master cylinder issues =
but they’re pretty new as well. Can’t speak for the flexible =
hose going to slave as I’ve had so much, basically overdrive, issues =
in that area that I can’t recall the minor parts.

I absolutely dread having to take the gearbox out AGAIN and am hopeful =
that it won’t be necessary.

Any ideas??

Yours hopefully, Simon
