Handbrake adjustment is a totally different item. Stretched cable or=0Aw=
rong cable? max adjustment on threaded rod? Adjustment procedure in=0Abo=
ok.=0ADid you grease the adjuster and oil the felts on the steady posts?=
=0ABoth springs are the same or the one closest to the adjuster could be=
=0Ashorter (sometimes) and they rub on the shoes-that's ok. Hank=0A=0A=

ubject: [Healeys] Rear brake adjustment=0A=0A BJ8 ph2. I am Struggling=
to get consistent results for rear brake=0Ashoe adjustment. All part of=
a project to get handbrake working=0Aproperly - currently it is almost=
vertical.=0A Background:=0A New shoes, slaves and springs etc with less=
than 4k mi. Almost no=0Asign of any wear yet.=0A Handbrake lever clevis=
pins removed. Steady post adjusted so the peg=0Ajust touches when brake=
s are adjusted tight. Then the adjustment set=0Aso you can just hear/fee=
l slight brake drag. All OK so far. =0A Here is the problem:=0A When the=
handbrake lever is pushed with screwdriver or my hand it=0Amoves with i=
nitial free play then clamps the shoes as it should.=0AHowever when rele=
ased brakes do not fully retract, and shoes bind and=0Anot at the same s=
etting that started off with. Same story with using=0Athe hydraulics; se=
ems to hang up, in not quite the off position. Both=0Awheels are the sam=
e.=0A Shoes can be "reset" to original setting by rattling the adjuster=
=0Aback and forth in the freeplay zone. All looks fine when drum is off=
=0Aand you can see the shoe operation.=0A=0A My thoughts :=0A I observe=
that the new springs actually touch the inside of the shoes=0A? Maybe s=
ome grease there ? Is this interference normal ? Is it=0Apossible to inc=
orrectly assemble the shoes/springs ? See photo of RR.=0A I note that th=
e slave is tight on the back plate. How tight is normal=0Afloating ? May=
be I assembled the slave cylinder clips incorrectly ?=0A=0A All suggesti=
ons appreciated=0A rg=0A=0A
