Update.
GB reinstalled and all clear so far.
For interest was rear GB bearing. Layshaft was also graunched.
Also replaced the front tranny bearing.
To my mind noise was not systematic of a dodgy bearing, but you live and
learn.
Thanks to all for ideas and input.
