Bill-the adjustable steering was used on the early 100s including your=
=0Acar 34 bodies from mine. It used a chrome trafficator lever. From=0A1=
49930 the non-adjustable unit was installed and it used the black=0A"bir=
ds beak" (witch's nose) lever. The facia was also modified to have=0Aa s=
maller opening for the now skinny steering shaft (for looks only)=0Aand=
the seat pans now had sliding adjusters rather then bolted to the=0Aflo=
or. This carried thru to the 100-6 era. Later the adjustable unit=0Awas=
brought back and continued on to the last BJ8 produced (using the=0Asam=
e parts as the early 100).=0AI'm not sure if my car originally came with=
chrome or black lever but=0Ato be concours correct I changed it to the=
chrome item. During the=0Ahurried rush to get the first 100s out the do=
or the factory would use=0Aany available part on the shelf. Since the tr=
afficator was an involved=0Aunit, they would have to be shipped in compl=
ete, and ready to go onto=0Acars on the track at Longbridge.=0AAs Roland=

ar correct? This was one of the items. There are about 75=0Avarious diff=
erences between the early BN1 and the later BN1s.It would=0Abe difficult=

 December 25, 2020 =0A=0A=095:41 PM =0A=0A=09This is a story of a new tr=
afficator lever, a lost filter and a new=0Aflashlight for Christmas. How=
all three items relate is the makings of=0Aa Christmas Miracle. =0A=0A=
=09It starts out by first obtaining the correct trafficator (directional=
=0Aflasher) lever to fit on my Austin Healey 100. That car uses the earl=
y=0Aadjustable steering setup so that lever is a curved chrome handle=0A=
(same one used on the later adjustables). The non adjustable steering=0A=
uses a black "birds beak" shaped lever. That one was wrongly used on=0Am=
y 1953 BN1. So with new part in hand, the procedure is to remove the=0At=
rafficator indicator unit, disassemble it and replace the lever. Lets=0A=
just say it=E2=80=99s a time consuming task that requires nimble fingers=
and=0Aa set procedure. Upon completion of the project its time to check=
the=0Aworking characteristics. =0A=0A=09Turn on the key, listen for fue=
l pump to stop then check horn and=0Aflashers=E2=80=A6uh, oh, fuel pump=
is not stopping=E2=80=A6stuck float. So now=0Amove to the rear carburet=
tor float bowl, remove lid and free up brass=0Afloat, clean needle and s=
eat and check float height. Reassemble, being=0Acareful not to drop any=
parts. Darn, there goes the fibre washer,=0Abrass filter and spring. Th=
e washer was laying under the car, but the=0Afilter was no where to be f=
ound. Looked everywhere on floor, within=0Athe engine bay, on the frame,=
on the suspension too, but it was not=0Alocated=E2=80=A6it just disappe=
ared. I tried blowing out the area with=0Acompressed air, then a vacuum=
maybe to suck it up from some obscure=0Aspot. Not found. That was Chris=
tmas Eve. =0A=0A=09Christmas Day we open presents and one was a 500 Lume=
ns flashlight=0Afrom my Sister-in-law; she is so thoughtful. So, after w=
e opened the=0Agifts, I thought, why not try out this super-bright flash=
light and see=0Aif I could to locate the elusive filter-its out there so=
mewhere.=0AShined the light on the engine, under the carbs, on the frame=
and=0Amaster cylinder-where is it? As I moved the new flashlight toward=
the=0Aframe support, it touched the edge and the lens fell out into the=
=0AHealey frame. You know that spot. It collects any part you are unable=
=0Ato find, and it is curved just enough that you can't see to the botto=
m=0Awhere it ends on the frame rail. I shined the lens-less flashlight=
=0Adown the frame and sure enough there was the lens=E2=80=A6and the fil=
ter,=0Aand even a missing choke lever return spring lost during the=0Are=
-assembly in 2015. With the help of the flashlight and a long armed=0Agr=
abber all items are now retrieved. =0A=0A=09Back to the trafficator, key=
on, horn and flashers work correctly=0Awith the new lever, so everythin=
g was assembled correctly, including=0Athe overflowing float bowl=E2=80=
=A6a Christmas Miracle. =0A=0A
