I think the spring under the button should keep the pall engaged on the ratchet
plate. Does you spring still seem in place i.e. button functions ?

Sometimes I feel like restoring a Hesley is like painting the Golden Gate
Bridge... now when I pull up my e brake handle the little tab that is
supposed to click into the notch and hold. It just stopped doing that. The
bit does not articulate up to lock. Any ideas on how to address this?
