Hello Alan

How are you?

A few years back I was corresponding with a bloke in the UK with a very early
BN1 about the exciting subject of bonnets. It appears that the bonnet on his
car and the one on mine were inadvertently swapped at the Donald Healey Motor
Company. Due to a computer problem I have lost his details.

The BN3 in its original four-cylinder guise predates the introduction of the Le
Mans kits.

Looks to me that is a LM kit bonnet lid from the factory... could have been
batch made in '53 and put on your car in '54?

Hello

This is probably superfluous to where you are going, but the alloy bonnet on
the BN3 does not have a cross brace. Attached are a couple of photos showing
the bonnet (it?s not on the car at the moment) and also the number stamped on
the side showing 125.

Hi Listers,

Thanks to those of you who responded back to me so quickly.

FWIW, Michael Salter and I were trying to determine when the the Aluminum
bonnets on early BN1s first received the side to side cross brace for strength
and stiffening. Initially we knew that body no. 724 did not have this brace,
and no. 1267 did have one... See photos.

We now know that body nos. 877 and 1000 did have the cross brace, so we've
narrowed it down quite a bit. 877 - 724 = 153 body numbers. Of course we
realize that 100s were not always built in strict body number order, so there
may be some overlap either way.

So, is there anyone still out there with a BN1 no. 725 to 876 with there
original bonnet?

Thanks again,

Curt Arndt
