Makes sense; however, the BN2 batteries are located just behind the rear
bulkhead. One is on the side of the exhaust, but not that close. They may have
just been defective, or sat on the shelf for too long. The second pair is
performing well, so far.

The environment that your Mustang battery lives in is way different than the
environment than the BJ8
Heat kills batteries. Underhood temps on a modern car are ugly hot. heat
shortens the life of the battery.
Here is an example Series III XJ6 a top of the line Delco battery lasted 18
months. You could almost set your watch by it.
The battery was located at the firewall on the exhaust side of the engine. It
got cooked.
XJS on the other hand, the batteries lasted 5-6 years, the battery was in the
trunk.
In a modern car, after 3 years the battery is on Social Security, after 4 years
the battery has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

Speaking of batteries, my experience with Autozone Duralast brand has been
positive. I now have them in my daily drivers
and the Healey.
The one in the Healey was purchased 4/10/2003 and still going. I keep a trickle
charger on when stored for 7 mos. and also during driving season when parked.
Whether that has to do with longevity or luck I don't know? I also trickle
charge the daily drivers if I'm away for more than a week. Newer cars drain
fast.
I plan to replace the Healey's battery(27-DG) this spring. Don't want to push
my luck since I will be driving to Gettysburg in July for Enclave.
