Shoe polish will definitely rub off - it is basically wax and does not
soak in. Bad idea.
I would recommend shoe creme(cream) or preferably shoe dye, both
widely available.
One advantage of shoe creme is it seems to come in a huge variety of
shades. That being said shoe dye is your best bet .
