[Healeys] Air Compressor Lines

I am finally hooking up my garage air compressor. I am using 1/2" black pipe. 
What is recommended for the pipe thread joints. I have some pipe dope and I 
have Teflon tape. Is one preferred over the other, or is something else 
recommended? Thanks.
