Ron -

My only comment on this is when I get a new car and I see
non-automotive wiring on it, I think "fire hazard because the PO
didn't know what he was doing" and strip the harness and replace as
first order of business.

I personally think people take wiring for granted on our cars, but
then again when it comes to this stuff I'm anal.  I don't want my car
catching on fire....
