As a point of trivia, heliarc is TIG (or GTAW).  Originally, helium was used as 
the shielding gas--and still is in some 
applications (sometimes aluminium)--but nowadays it's usually argon or an 
argon-CO2 mix.

Bet your welder was an 'old timer.'
