I believe it was actually a 3.3 liter engine and yes the valve cover lid  
bolts down at the top for increased stiffness, though I don't know how the  
bottom of the cover is attached to the head.  Whatever it was a work of  art.

that it has its own  rocker cover that also supports the rocker shaft.
