True but the result is usually a jammed up OD, nicked pump roller or a 
bent pump shaft. This is where the reassembly instructions mentioning 
that if the OD doesn't easily slide home when tightening the two nuts 
on the long studs, STOP.  One of those memories that made a gearbox 
rebuild much more expensive. I leave the pump out now days and install 
after the OD and gearbox are mated.

It is also possible the install cam correctly but not get the oil pump
roller correctly riding on the cam lobe.
