You would not only damage the screw but also the screwdriver or bit.
It is amazing that even quite a few experienced mechanics and other
people who should know (including concours judges) do not know there is
a difference in "cross headed" screws.
You only have to look in their toolbox: phillips but no pozidrive.
There is a third type, but I forgot the name. It is hardly ever used.
