1) Perry is probably right. If you had a real leak, there'd be oil all over
the brake shoes etc.
2) If the seal is indeed shot, make sure the bearing's OK. These bearings
are huge and very rugged. Sometimes a seal goes out because the bearing's
bad and there's oscillation.
3) PVC pipe fittings come in lotsa sizes and are very accurately made and
cheap. I've had good luck finding ones the right size to use for seal
drivers.
4) never had any trouble with leakage with combo of paper gasket, o-ring and
hylomar.
