Jack, If you have a timing light (hopefully a dial back to zero type) can you tell us the number of degrees of Total advance (with the vacuum advance disconnected) at idle (specify the RPM) & at some high RPM such as 3000, 3500 or 4000? Also, please verify that the vacuum advance is functioning. I stick a plastic tube on the vacuum advance connection & suck. Watch to see if the points plate in the distributor rotates under a vacuum.
