Tom,
If you can't weld the hole, try some metal-impregnated epoxy putty.
This stuff comes as
a stick, with the epoxy and hardener "coaxial" to each other. You just
slice off a piece
and mix it up by hand, stick it on/in the hole, then file (if necessary)
and paint if you want.
Think you can still get Ansa (or Monza) mufflers for the older 6-cyl
cars; for BJ8s the
only alternative I've seen is stainless steel.
