I had the exact same thing happen last Saturday. Brand new wires, factory
Lucas cap & rotor. Car just quit running in the driveway.
Turned out the (Autozone ) coil went bad and ate the Pertronix.
I checked with Pertronix and they said this happens sometimes and there's no
way to protect against it as fuses defeat the purpose.
Here's my troubleshooting logic:
First I replaced the coil with a good coil off my wife's 240z--wouldn't
start. Replaced the rotor--ditto.
Then I put the old coil back and replaced the Pertronix with the points;
replaced the rotor to the original one.
Car ran but with a bad miss. Checking the coil with the timing light the
miss was easy to detect.
My cutoff switch wire is not hooked up.
Replaced the z-car coil onto the Healey now with points--runs fine.
Z-car doesn't run worth a damn though, without a coil :-(.
