Have you checked to see if any fuel is leaking from either the bottom of
your carb or from the float bowl overflow pipes?
If fuel is leaking from the bottom of the carb then that means the needle
jet is bad and needs to be replaced. If fuel is leaking from the float
bowls that means you need to give the float bowls a good whack with a piece
of wood and drive the car more often.
Lastly, is your car running too rich? have you tuned the carbs? This is a
good idea to do this.
If you are doing 18 ~ 20 mpg you are properly tuned for a BJ8.
