I would agree with Alan, from what I have read the only time it may help is 
in extremely high rpm/compression situations, given that my redline is under 
5000 I doubt if it makes much difference on my car.

Still I bought one many years ago when the auto parts guy convinced me it 
was a needed "go faster" goodie, and I run one now, not really sure why, 
never noticed a difference in performance when I put have one on various 
cars including my current one.
