Hi Rob,
There is an oil seal in the tach drive. Unscrew the drive gear from the
housing, big nut. Remove the inner retainer sleeve, & the seal. Replace the
seal with Moss # 520-440 & install the retainer. No more oil going up
the tach cable.
The retainer sleeve may be difficult to remove but will come out if you
are persistent.
Mine had the tach head so full of oil that the needle would barely move.
Removed the tach from it's housing & flushed everything with brake
cleaner. Don't get any on the painted front dial surface. It's been
working well ever since.
