Very old water pumps such as the originals may need light greasing. Any water pump that has been built or rebuilt in the last 20 - 30 years will have lubed, sealed, bearings which require no greasing. Trying to inject grease into this newer type bearing will likely only ruin the seals. Modern coolants (not plain water) contain water pump lubricant which is sufficient.
