Loose wire between the solenoid and starter is indeed a possibility....

It is most likely not the solenoid.... (The "loud click heard on the
engine side of the bulkhead" is the sound of a functioning solenoid.)
The only possibility for the solenoid to be the culprit is if there is
functioning primary winding for the solenoid to work, but the relay
contacts are poor and it isn't passing battery current through the relay
part of the solenoid... this is highly unlikely because the mechanical
scrub associated with the powerful "click" being heard usually scrubs
the contacts so good electrical contact is maintained....)...
nevertheless, everything is possible with Lucas...:-)

An extremely simple check would be to see if there was 12 volts on the
output side of the solenoid when the starter button is pressed. If
voltage jumps to 12 volts when the starter button is pressed, the
solenoid is good... (save your money, don't replace healthy parts).

Do the same check on the wire leading from the solenoid to the starter
and you've narrowed the problem to only the starter.... and I think the
fix is cheap and easy too...:-)
