Michael:
I agree with your measurements - just went and checked. My badges are
definitely original, and are mounted to my original BJ8 hardtop - no key
ring loop is present. It was my understanding that the key fob repros are
the only repros that have been done to date - (David Ward may know more
about this than I). The originals have a rather 'dished' cross section -
they never did fit completey flat to the top. I have seen the key fob
repro, and it looked pretty good to me - I'm sure that they've been used in
place of the originals with the key ring loop removed.
As you (and others) may be aware, there were 2 'bend over' tabs soldered to
the back of the badge in the form of a 'u' shaped fitting, which were
inserted into 2 holes drilled in the shell of the top and bent over to
secure the badge. The headlining material (when it was used) was then glued
to the inside of the shell to hide the badge attatchment point. Reprodution
badges could simply be affixed with emblem tape, as is done today.
I hope I don't get swamped with requests, but I can e-mail photos of the
badge area of my hardtop to those who may have an interest.

Subject: RE: "Works" hardtop badge
Interestingly I have what I believe is an original of this badge, but has a
rectangular loop on the top to attach it to a key ring fob.
The key ring fob itself is the cheapest nastiest red plastic item you have
ever seen.
The badge is 25 mm wide and 30 mm high not including the key ring loop.
I was of the understanding that a reproduction of this key fob has been
made.
Anyone know if a> This is the original badge?
b> If repros have been made?
