Hi, Jim -
>From personal observation of BJ8 engines, a great many of them have lost
their original serial number tags. The aluminum tags dissolve in the block
cleaning chemicals during rebuild unless they are removed. Perhaps this
happened to the 2.6L engine and someone wanted to "reidentify" it with an
available 29D tag. Or, perhaps he had more sinister motives and wanted
someone to think the engine was a 2.9L 3000 engine.

Subject: engine number.
i have the feeling that the engine tag on the bn6 is a falsehood. it says
29D, yet the engine is a 2.6 liter. it looked like an original tag, and i
had
to destroy those funny little rivets to get it off. can anyone enlighten me
as to why anyone would put a false tag on the engine? is there something i
don't know about on these early healey engines? healeymanjim
