I would start by running premium fuel, we can get 91 Octane pump gas around here, don't know what is available where you live, which should be slightly more resistent to detonation. My current car, also 100 b ut with stock compression, isn't too bad as far as run on, but I have used he clutch (and brake, don't forget) technique when stopping it, as well as prior TRs and MGs for years with no known ill effects on the drivetrain.
