Ned,
You can turn the generator into a motor and confirm that it will
charge when installed.
To do this you will need to polarize the generator, To do this use a
jumper battery and connect the negative side to the case of the
generator then touch the positive cable to the SMALL terminal on the
generator. This will make the generator a positive ground generator.
Now connect the positive cable to the small terminal and then the large
terminal at the same time. DO NOT touch the large terminal first by its
self you will damage the generator. When both the terminals are
connected the generator pulley will turn, this has turned the generator
into a electric motor. If it does not turn it will not charge.
