Ned:

My BJ8 is car# HBJ8U/42845, engine tag 29K-RU-H/17340. I would guess that
your numbers are the correct originals for your car as per the certificate.

Your car would have left the factory with 1/2" pulleys and belt - the change
point from 3/8" was much earlier. It is common to find that water pumps
were changed back and forth without the correct pulley being installed
during the service life of the car - same thing with generators.

The BJ8 had a strengthened generator mounting bracket and a different
generator (slightly higher output), but had the wider pulley installed when
the belt change was done.

Check your crankshft pulley - I bet it's a 1/2"

My BJ8 has number H-BJ8-U/42685 on the firewall tag.

The number on the ID tag on the engine is 29K-RU-H/17244 but the tag looks
crumpled. This is the same number on the Heritage certificate.

But the generator mount is for an earlier car and the pulley on the water
pump is for a 3/8" belt.

Are there any other distinguishing characteristics that could not be altered
that would give the exact age of the engine?

Thanks,

Ned Smith
