Ed,
In some of the high end car stereo stores, I have seen electronic antennas (in
matte black, which telescope down to 3" long, then fold flat, clipping into a
black base which is only about 3/4 inches tall....    Don't know if that would
be an alternative to your liking or not. --I had one on one of my previous
cars, and the performance was great.
