Period Correct Disc Wheel Color

I just acquired a set of disc wheels.  Before sandblasting and repainting
the wheels I plan to have them balanced at a tire shop before (and after)
installing tires. 
What is the period correct color for the wheels?

What else should I look after before installing the wheels?
