Hey Scott,
Use a baking soda solution to neutralize the acid. Then follow with a rinse
of distilled water, or just tap water, do a final rinse with an alcohol,
methanol or I use denatured alcohol which is mostly ethanol. This last wash
will aid in drying and degreasing the surface. If you still get white hazing
repeat the process.
I keep spray bottles of those solutions around as I prep any piece for
finishing. Even after sandblasting a piece I will spray it with the alcohol
and dry it before painting.
If you have a lot of acid on the surface you may see fizzing when you hit it
with the baking soda solution. You should continue to hit it with baking
soda until there is no more fizzing. That means the neutralization is done.
Sincerely
Rick Neves
