....Another thing, --I would not attempt to do the repair on the gearbox,
without taking the photos that Greg describes, AND without having GOOD print
of the Master Parts list pages for the gearbox. --Usually in the shop manuals
there is a small reproduction of the tranny diagrams, --but full sized prints
are a lot more clear, and complete.
If it were me, I would order the synchros, and a bunch of needle bearings at
the time you order the 1st gear. Might as well replace them, -and any worn
needle bearings at the same time. -Since you have it apart anyway.
I learned some tricks about reassembling w/ all the needle bearings in place,
so if you decide to do it yourself, drop me a line.

  Depending on the degree you want to get into it you can also do the halfway
  thing and save a few dollars on labor by pulling the tranny yourself and
  taking or shipping it to a good shop.  For people like me with more grunt
  than brains (or money for that matter) this can be a viable alternative.
