Smitty (yes, that Smitty) has suggested an alternator that actually mounts
inside the generator case and uses the same pulley and bracket (also has the
advantage of maintaining the position of the coil. I'm looking further into
that.
Also, I wouldn't propose that Healey owners rush out tomorrow and swap their
working tranny for a Smitty conversion, but rather that when you get to the
point of needing a tranny rebuild, you may find that a conversion is the
cheapest (and depending on what tranny parts are messed up, the only) way to
get your
Healey back on the road.
