Thanks, Bob. Looking into that soon. I only know the pictures.
Hehe.
Kidding a little, but I know enough not to mess with something I could
most likely make worse. I will respond as soon as we discover
the cause.

I'm no O/D expert, but I know how it works.
When the O/D is not engaged, the cone clutch, annular gear, sun gear
and planetary gears rotate as a unit; i.e. in effect it's a straight
shaft.
When the O/D is engaged, the sun gear is locked, the planetary gears
rotate about the sun gear and the annular (ring) gear is over-driven
by
the planetary gears. If you hear noise only when the O/D is engaged,
something is amiss in the moving parts; e.g. a chipped gear or
similar.
There is also a "uni-directional clutch"--it's a roller clutch--whose
purpose
is not exactly clear to me. But I suspect if it was the cause of the
noise
you would hear it whether the O/D was engaged or not.
BTW, can anybody explain how/what the uni-directional clutch is for?
