Don't feel bad. My steering gearbox leaked from the day I bought my BJ8 new
back in 1967!
Just topped it up over the 100,000 miles of driving I did with that car.

STP might fix it. I used Penrite Steering Box Oil sold by fellow lister Jon
McLeroy (jfm@spyderinternet.com). It has stopped my leak for two years now.

Replacing the seal is a somewhat difficult job. You have to remove
the tie rod lever, then remove the top of the stearing box and remove
the steering peg & roller. Then you can then easily tap the seal out
and replace it.
It's all a bit messy, an easier solution is to try using STP and see
if that stops the leaks... if so, just stay with that.
