I've got a "Sports" coil. Hereabouts they cost much the same as the regular
one and are readily available at Lucas dealerships.
It works fine...Nothing's blown. (So far as I remember, it's not volts that
blow things. It's amps & or watts. Don't all shout me down. I hated physics
at school and was taught by a demented veteran.)I have my gaps opened up a
bit. One of the gurus will comment with the width.....otherwise, open them
up progressively until you've gone too far and set them at the last
successful measurement.
I have a Petronix and find the combo to work well, though I've seen adverse
comment on this.
Simon.

O.K. all you electrical experts . . . does a change from the normal AH 3000
coil (20,000 volts) to the 40,000 volt "Sports" coil sold by various
suppliers, present any problems? I've been told that the higher voltage
burns
up points and distributor caps, and blows condensers, but I can't seem to
understand how that could happen. Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
