Hi Randy,
Did mine last year. It truly make a difference on a warm day. You can lay
you leg against the tunnel and it's almost cool (well-almost).
Neatly precut the pieces to best form the inside of the tunnel. With a good
eye and some patience, you can make it looks like one piece. Use a good
quality 3M spray adhesive, spray both surfaces and let air dry until tacky.
Glue
the foam side to tunnel with foil side toward the transmission. Use aluminum
foil tape to seal the seams between pieces.
I don't remember any point where you have to worry about the extra
thickness, except where the fiber tunnel rides over the top of the metal tunnel
that
is over the drive shaft and overdrive. You will probably have to cut it off,
or leave it loose so the metal tunnel can slide between the fiberglas and the
insulation. With the extra thickness of insulation, you can't easy fit the
vertical riser (that usually contains the radio) to the underside of dashboard
and the fiberglas flange of the tunnel doesn't lay flat to the floor board,
and it could crack when you try to screw is down. Also you want to have the
appropriate rubber/foam gasket to all the tunnel flanges, both against the
floor
and against the front firewall.
Have a good time....

Hi List, I'm starting to insulate my BJ8 and have a question regarding the
transmission Tunnel. Should I insulate (using foil/sound deadening/heat
insulation) on the inside of the tunnel (tranny side) or the interior
surface of the tunnel?
TIA
