I rebuilt my BJ8 motor as a novice 15 years ago and 80,000 miles ago.
The engine is still going strong, doesn't burn any oil... great
compression. Before that I had never even dismantled a motor... so a
novice can do it with a little research and a little curiosity with
other owners (like you are doing here). The manual is very good about
dissassembly instructions
