I used to clean oil filters that came apart on jet engines in the 70's.
They were made of a series of micron filters and wave spacers which
efficiently caught inpurities in the oil system. We had a large parts
washer that used a very caustic material, heat, and ultrasound to clean the
parts. Did a great job, but the cleaner material is no longer in use due to
environmental and health reasons. I would assume that the technology is
very similar in these new filters. I would be surprised however if the
cleaning cost less than the throw away filters as labor is the most
expensive part of the process.

Hello,
Someday this may pertain to Healeys......While researching new automobiles,
I came upon some that are now using reusable oil filters. They are removed
from the engine during a routine oil change, then cleaned in a special
washer, then reused. I know the subject of oil filters has been a topic on
this list from time to time, and I was wondering what some of you think
about using reusable filters versus the traditional spin-on disposable? One
concern of mine is that sludge, metal particles, and other accumulation may
not get properly cleaned from the reusable filter. Do any of you have any
first hand experience?
I'd appreciate any comments.
