Guys, I shouted too early. Trying to bolt the hinges to the doors I rapidly discovered why the top hinge needs two shorter bolts: otherwise you can't mount them. The question remains, of course, why longer bolts were used for the other places: the last 1/4" of the long bolts doesn't do anything.
